Cassareep Electric Sunset

Posted by Jonathan in Events on December 15th, 2009

Cassareep sunsetCassareep is hosting a beach party this Sunday (Dec 20th)!

Local favourite, DJ Scientist is booked to play chilled electronica, a rare thing on this soca-fuelled isle, all afternoon and into the night. Scientist is known for his dance music collection and and we’re told that Sunday’s set will be as laid back as the sunset.

Admission is free and food and drink will be on sale. Sam is roasting a pig in a China box, so the Café del Mar of Speightstown will have a distinctly Bajan twist.

Beach parties at Cassareep don’t happen that often so you need to catch them when you can. If you haven’t been before, the beach itself is the perfect secluded spot for a party, far away from the more ‘touristy’ hang-outs of the south coast.

Rihanna: Rated R review | CD reviews | Music – Times Online

Posted by Jonathan in Living in Barbados on November 22nd, 2009

Maybe you shouldn’t, but it’s impossible to listen to Rihanna’s new record without hunting for clues about her feelings towards Chris Brown, the former boyfriend and fellow singer whose vicious assault on her in Los Angeles in February still fills the gossip pages. And boy are the clues there. On her new album — which is remarkably her fourth, at the age of only 21 — the R&B star from Barbados has come back with all guns blazing: lyrically, tonally, vocally.

Lots events happening for the Barbados Music Festival, which I think starts tonight. Getting a full list of artists and locations is tricky, best I could find is this Facebook group: Facebook | BARBADOS MUSIC FESTIVAL – SURFER’S BAY 2009.
