Michael Winner’s Fisher Pond Great House review – Times Online

Posted by Monique in Living in Barbados on November 1st, 2009

We had lunch at the Fisher Pond today and it just reminded of this article. Winner is right for once.

I nearly forgot to tell you the name of this amazing place. It’s Fisher Pond Great House, St Thomas, Barbados. Only available to the public for Sunday lunch. During the week, if you’re six or more, they open specially. That’s no good for me. I haven’t got five friends, so I’d never get in.

In Barbados, Tapas is Tops for South Coast Dining Barbados hotels Planet Barbados

Posted by Jonathan in Services on October 25th, 2009

If the Three Tenors had collaborated on a restaurant instead of “Nessun Dorma,” they might have founded the popular new Tapas in Barbados.

Instead, three Italians well-known in the Barbados restaurant scene collaborated to make beautiful food together. Located on the new boardwalk on the south coast, Tapas occupies the two-level space Aqua once had. It’s one of the most stunning sea-front locations on the island. Aqua was one of my favorite restaurants (owned by one of my adorable brothers-in-law) but darn was it ever expensive!

Generously portioned tapas run about $14Bds apiece ($7US).

Generously portioned tapas run about $14Bds apiece ($7US). I’ve had everything listed here and many other tapas … there’s always a party in my mouth at Tapas restaurant.

Not Tapas. And that’s one of its outstanding charms.

Dinner at The Tides Restaurant in Barbados

Posted by Monique in Living in Barbados on October 19th, 2009

The Tides Restaurant is located at Balmore House in Holetown and is probably one of the most consistent restaurants when it comes to service, presentation and quality of their dishes.

We took some guests from the UK to dinner here last week and the service and food was amazing!  Not to mention the extensive wine list they had to offer!

I’ve listed a few of the dishes we thoroughly enjoyed below but you can find the full dinner menu here:

To start:

  • Fresh Chargrilled Vegetables - Medley of yellow Sweet Pepper, Red Onion, Zucchini, Paris Mushrooms & Baby Sweet Corn topped with seasoned Goats Cheese & Sun dried Tomato Vinaigrette
  • Panfried Bay Scallops resting on Sweet Potato Mash with Mango & Orange Beurre Blanc

As mains:

  • Jamaican “Jerk” Pork Tenderloin wrapped in Parma Ham with Pesto Mash, Leek & Calvados Cream finished with caramelized Apples
  • Fillet of Beef  served with Sautéed Potatoes, Cepe Bordelaise Sauce & Plantain Fu Fu

A little sweet:

  • Trio of Crème Brulee - Mango & Spiced Rum, Rich Milk Chocolate and Tahitian Vanilla Bean glazed with Cane Sugar

They are also open for lunch and have a great selection of starters as well as salads, panninis, wraps and specials for their mains.

A little info on their policies

  • There is an elegantly casual dress code for dinner which means trousers for the gents and no sleeveless shirt
  • Children are welcomed for lunch, however children under 10 are only permitted at their 6:30 pm sittings
  • It is also important to note that they only take Visa or Mastercard (No American Express)
  • During the Christmas period, reservations are only taken on a credit card (from December 15th to January 15th every year)

We highly recommend you try this restaurant!
